Mavors

Zahlreiche Aspekte der Geschichte des Römischen Reiches sind aufs engste mit dessen Armee verknüpft – Politik, Krieg, Wirtschaft, Literatur, Religion und Kunst. Die Erforschung der Militärgeschichte ist deshalb für das Verständnis der römischen Gesellschaft von grundlegender Bedeutung. Allerdings sind entsprechende Publikationen in zahlreichen, oft nur schwer erhältlichen Publikationen verstreut, und es ist selbst dem Fachmann oft kaum mehr möglich, den Überblick zu wahren. Deshalb begründete Michael P. Speidel im Jahre 1984 die Mavors-Reihe: Sie sammelt die bedeutendsten Studien herausragender Forscher zur römischen Militärgeschichte und erweitert sie mit Anhängen und Indizes. So sind diese wichtigen Beiträge (wieder) zugänglich und regen weiterführende Forschungen an. Außerdem erscheinen in der Reihe Forschungsresultate der Projekte des Instituts für antike Militärgeschichte Mavors in Basel. Die Bände 1–4 und 6 der Reihe sind im Verlag J. C. Gieben (Amsterdam) erschienen.

Publishing information

Please send manuscript submissions to our acquisition managers or to the editor of the series. Submissions must be original texts (no translations) which must not be previously published. During the review process, manuscripts may not be submitted elsewhere. Monographs must be complete and fully finished. For multi-authored volumes contact us as early as possible with details of the planned contributions. In initial submissions, our publication guidelines or citation rules do not have to be strictly followed.

All submissions are subjected to peer review. The review process can result in acceptance, the recommendation of revisions or rejection of the project. You will be informed of the decision by email. We attempt to reach a decision within 3 months of the submission of the manuscript.
