Malalas-Studien

John Malalas generated a world chronicle in the 6th century AD that represents a turning point in various respects. Created in the transition period between late antiquity and the Byzantine Middle Ages, it is not only one of the last extensive historical works of antiquity but also marks the beginning of Byzantine chronology. Numerous later authors relied on or referred to the Malalas Chronicle.

Despite its great importance, researchers rarely took the Chronicle of John Malalas into account until a few years ago. Only recently has its extraordinary value been recognized, not least for the reconstruction of the history of the 6th century. The series Malalas-Studien provides a forum for current research on the Malalas Chronicle and its context and, at the same time, aims to promote international exchange on the topic.
