For 120 years, the Zeitschrift fuer Dialektologie und Linguistik (ZDL) has been the leading international publication venue for scholarship related to the linguistic development of German in all of its regional variety and dynamics. It covers the entire field of modern regional language research, including historical, social, pragmatic, and theoretical aspects. The languages of publication are German and English. Quality is assured via a peer review process: After the editorial team has checked the general suitability of submissions, they are assessed by members of the editorial board and by experts in the specific subject areas.

The book series ZDL Beihefte supplements the journal, publishing monographs and conference volumes that correspond to the academic profile.

Publishing information

Please send manuscript submissions to the editors (zdl@staff.uni-marburg.de). Submissions must be original articles (no translations) which must not be previously published. During the review process, manuscripts may not be submitted elsewhere. A manuscript submitted to the journal must be ready for publication, the editors do not accept partial or draft versions. In initial submissions, the citation rules of the journal do not have to be strictly followed. Please pay attention to the anonymization of your text so that your identity as author cannot be ascertained directly or indirectly (e.g. by acknowledgments and self-references in footnotes). All submissions are subjected to peer review. The review process can result in acceptance, the recommendation of revisions or rejection of the manuscript. The author is informed of the decision by email. The editors attempt to reach a decision within 3 months of the submission of the manuscript. If a manuscript is accepted, the editors request a file with the final version. The final version includes names and acknowledgments. Also, please follow the guidelines of publisher and editors provided below. There are no fees for submitting and publishing an article in the journal.

Publishing information

Wir möchten Sie bitten, Manuskriptvorschläge an die Redaktion (zdl@staff.uni-marburg.de) oder an unsere Programmplanung (service@steiner-verlag.de) zu richten. Das Manuskript darf bisher nicht veröffentlicht sein (auch nicht in anderen Sprachen) und während des Begutachtungsverfahrens nicht andernorts zur Publikation eingereicht werden. Eingereichte Monografien müssen inhaltlich abgeschlossen sein. Bei Sammelbänden bitten wir um frühzeitige Kontaktaufnahme mit Angaben zu den geplanten Beiträgen. Formale Vorgaben oder ein bestimmter Zitierstil müssen für die Einreichung von Manuskripten noch nicht berücksichtigt werden.
Jedes Manuskript durchläuft ein double blind Peer Review-Verfahren. Der Begutachtungsprozess kann die Annahme, Aufforderung zur Überarbeitung oder Ablehnung des Projekts ergeben. Hierüber werden Sie per E-Mail informiert. Wir bemühen uns, innerhalb von 3 Monaten nach Manuskripteingang eine Entscheidung zu treffen.
Wird ein Manuskript angenommen, erbittet das Herausgebergremium eine Datei mit der Endfassung. Bei der Endfassung bitte die Anonymisierung aufheben und die Publikationsrichtlinien von Verlag und Herausgebergremium berücksichtigen.
