Hartmut Graßl ist Diplomphysiker und war von 1988 bis 2005 Professor an der Universität Hamburg und Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für Meteorologie. Er ist Mitglied der Vereinigung Deutscher Wissenschaftler (VDW).
