3. eBooks
a. How do I go about buying an eBook?
If you want to buy an eBook in our online shop, the purchasing process is the same as for any other product: choose your eBook in EPUB or PDF format and add it to your shopping cart. Follow the steps and confirm your purchase by clicking “Submit order”.
You will then receive a confirmation email containing a link you can use to download the eBook. Please also refer to notes 3b and 3c.
If you see “ohne Kopierschutz, mit digitalem Wasserzeichen” on the eBook’s product detail page, this means that you can save the book onto your PC or eBook reader and read it on as many devices as you like. To prevent illegal distribution on the internet, eBooks without copy protection have an invisible watermark that provides information about the buyer.
Please note that it is only possible to redeem a voucher for an eBook once you have a confirmed customer account in the shop through which you have already placed a first order.
b. How do I go about downloading an eBook?
You will find a link you can use to download the eBook in your confirmation email. Once you have clicked on the download link in your confirmation email, you can open the file or save it in the desired location on your PC.
Some eBooks can only be used with the free Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) software. Install Adobe Digital Editions on your device and sign in with your Adobe ID. If you don’t already have an Adobe ID, you can register with Adobe for free. It’s important that you register before downloading your first eBook. Here you can find a free > download link for ADE.
If your eBook is copy protected, first open the ACSM file to download the actual eBook. You can now open the file with Adobe Digital Editions or save it in the desired location on your device.
Please make sure that you don’t just view the book, but that you actually download it – that is, that you save it or import it into your eBook reader once you’ve downloaded it. After downloading the book and saving it to your PC, you can transfer it to as many devices as you like. This means that when you change devices, you can simply transfer the book back from your PC onto the new device (via the iCloud if using an iPad).
You are not authorised to pass the eBook on to others, which is why our eBooks have visible and invisible watermarks that provide information about the buyer.
c. Can I lend or sell my eBook?
No. The rights of use are non-transferable and permit your personal use of the eBook only. To prevent illegal distribution on the internet, eBooks have visible and invisible watermarks that provide information about the buyer.
