Reappraisal of our current knowledge of the genus Stangea GRAEBN. (Valerianaceae)
Reappraisal of our current knowledge of the genus Stangea GRAEBN. (Valerianaceae)
The high-Andean genus Stangea proposed by Graebner may be considered to be the most peculiar genus within the Valerianaceae. Its most distinguishing character, the head-shaped form of the terminal flat-topped hemispheric inflorescence, is unique within the family, since the capitate form of the pleiothyrsic inflorescence is not only caused by a dense aggregation of flowers, but also to an increased primary growth of the medulla.
